Welcome to the website of the Allsorts Dog Rescue based in Sussex.

Here are the winning, unclaimed raffle tickets from The Giant Golden Show on Sunday 18th at Albourne. Thank you all for coming and spending your hard earned money with us.

NOTE: It is our policy NOT to rehome dogs outside of a 40 miles radius from Brighton in East Sussex. If you are really keen to home one of our dogs and you live outside this zone, then you will be expected to provide written proof that you have been homechecked by another Animal Rescue in your area or your Local RSPCA. You will also have to provide details of the Vet you are currently registered with. We will contact both of these prior to contacting you to verify your references. After that, it will be your responsibilty to come and see the dog you are interested in within a very short time period. As well as the normal adoption form, you will be required to sign an additional form that is legally binding that will GUARANTEE that in the event of the homing failing, that YOU will bring the dog back to us at a time given by us. This will mean you may have to wait up to TWO WEEKS before bringing any dog back to us. You will also have to bear any costs involved in this yourself. If you cannot agree to these conditions, then please do not apply. If you live outside our area and do not provide the information we have asked for on your original application (you should write the name of the organisation that has checked you and the date written on the certificate), it will be ignored.

Between now and Christmas. Our very good friend and supporter, Tracy Robinson will be donating £5.00 from every wash and grooming appointment to Allsorts Dog Rescue if you mention Allsorts when either booking the appointment or whilst you are at her parlour.

Please support Tracy, she bathes and clips all of our dogs that come into us in a bad condition totally for free. Lovely lady and a great treat for your dog !

HOWEVER, before you fill in a form, please bear the following in mind:

1)	If you are about to go on holiday, DO NOT fill in a form. Please wait until you return from your holiday and are in a position to take the dog. We do not hold dogs for people.
2)	If it says on the dogs information that he/she needs to be rehomed quickly, it means exactly that. it needs a home NOW. If you are not in a position to have the dog very quickly, then please do not apply. We can arrange home checks within hours if necessary.
3)	Please fill the application forms in as fully as possible. Missing information and the lack of a Land line number generally means your application will drop to the bottom of the pile.
4)	Occasionally we get snowed under with applications. Sometimes when this happens rejected applicants don't get notified. If this happens to you, then we apologise in advance. You can use the receipt email you get to ask us what is happening, but please be patient.
5)	Our standard donation for a dog/puppy is £150. Sometimes we get "star" dogs for which we will ask a higher donation. This is simply to enable us to keep harder to home dogs in kennels. If a particular dog is not spayed or neutered, then we may make a contribution towards the operation by a £50 reduction in the donation (this does NOT apply to puppies). If the dog requires other treatments, then we may make further reductions in the donation. BUT note that we set the donation. It is NOT negotiable. We regard it as reason to withdraw an offer of a dog if the potential adoptive family try to "negotiate" the donation.

Visiting Us
We do not have a centre as such that people can come along to browse through the dogs. Information on each dog is available through the website, and this information is updated daily. Our website has been running since November 2008 and is already seeing over 3,000 hits a month. We simply do not have the resources to operate a centre with full time staff. We will make arrangements for you to meet the dog if you are serious about re-homing it.

Where do we keep our dogs ?
We operate via a network of foster homes and we use Badger Kennels in Fulking in Sussex where we can keep our dogs at a very generously reduced fee.

Adoption Restrictions:
We have very few specific restrictions. However, applicants should ideally live within a 40 mile radius of Brighton to enable us to do home checks and follow up visits. We are not keen on homing dogs into family’s with small children. Sorry, but too many dogs get thrown out when kids arrive. We also will not home a dog where all adults are away from the house all day. Generally speaking the dog must have an adult in the house every 4 hours and more frequently is preferred.

Adoption success.
We typically re-home about 10 - 20 dogs each month.

What do we do ?

Allsorts is primarily setup to find homes for unwanted, unloved and abandoned dogs in Sussex. Many dogs are strays that have been picked up by various local councils and passed onto us for re-homing. In some cases we take dogs that are 24 hours or less away from being destroyed.
We do not normally acknowledge this when advertising a dog as we do not want anyone to re-home a dog simply because they believe they are saving its life. We also re-home dogs for people that contact us directly with a problem. This is usually a relationship breakdown, a death in the family or serious illness. Occasionally it will be something trite. BUT, we always put the dogs interest first.
We also have contacts in the Greyhound world and we re-home retiring racers, injured, timid and greyhounds deemed unsuitable for racing.

Re-homing process

The following is the typical process for re-homing a dog from us.

First you have to identify the dog you want to adopt.

If you are on the internet, make sure you have read the dogs page.

Call Gail to discuss the dog and arrange to meet him/her.

A home visit will take place to ensure that you and the dog are right for each other.

You collect the dog, or sometimes, we will deliver the dog to you.

Pay the donation fee (read statement 5 above carefully) and sign the forms agreeing to look after the dog and never part with it, unless to come back to us because of death or famine. If your dog develops behaviour habits you dont like, then you need to find out why and take steps to modify the problem. DO NOT JUST GIVE UP ON THE DOG. Call us, go and see your vet, watch Caesar Milan, buy a book, rent a dvd, see a dog behaviourist, take it to training classes. BUT DO NOT LEAVE THE PROBLEM UNTIL THE SITUATON IS IMPOSSIBLE. Any problem can be resolved quickly if caught and acted upon.

Once you have taken your new dog home, we do not just forget about you. We will follow up with either a call or a visit to make sure that everything is going well. We encourage you to send photos of your happy new friend to us which we will post onto our website in the Gallery section.
If you are having problems, then we are always at the end of the telephone and if necessary will make repeat visits to assist you and offer advice and support.
On this website you will also find a link to Facebook where you can discuss with other dog lovers, any problems or issues you have . It’s a free and open service. If things really do not work out, then as a last resort we will take the dog back and find another home for him/her.
